Water Purification

Tirta Empul Temple was built in the 9th century, during The Warmadewa Kingdom. In this temple you will see the Holy spring water, blowing from the ground and inner pool of the temple site. On the 2nd layer of the temple we generally witness Balinese or even tourist, in line to dip their head and drink the water from the showers along the side of the pool.

The waters are believed to have magical and curative powers. People journey from all over Bali to purify themselves in the clear bathing pools. Fruits (seasonal) on site are served after offerings are blessed by Pemangku (Local Priest). Please bring extra clothes, sarong and towel.
